Must be Willing to be Wrong

Aug 14, 2019

The positive slant is – we must be willing to change our position on a subject when the evidence or circumstances demands or proves otherwise. This is challenging, but it is the action we must take if we want to “Achieve a Better Life.” Our life and the world around us will not change nor improve if something about us does not change or improve first; we must come to terms with this cause and effect. We must understand our human nature and develop the ability to accept being wrong and then turn around and make things right.

“I try not to be an ideologue about anything. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong, and I’m willing to evolve.” Mark Cuban

Whenever necessary, we must accept that our words, opinions, beliefs, or actions maybe wrong (inconsistent with the Real World), whether or not they may have been right before. One day, at a company I worked at a few years back, I questioned why we were doing something a certain way. They looked at me kind of oddly and I was told “that’s the way we always do it.” My reply was “maybe it stopped working twenty years ago.” Some things may have been right or worked once, but that does not imply it works forever; situations and circumstances change.

Willing to be wrong takes a real commitment to being a better person, to fulfilling our Angelic Soul purpose. That path starts with first recognizing and then taking responsibility for our actions and words. When we are wrong, we must acknowledge to ourselves (and possibly the others in the interaction) that we are wrong. Needing to be right is a Primitive Soul motivation.

Admitting we are wrong is challenging for a Primitive Soul motivated person, because as I have said before it “won’t let the facts get in the way of a good story.” But it gets easier the more Angelic Soul balanced we get. The better we get at not needing to be right all the time, the better our relationships will become. This is how we tune-up our internal Human Operating System (iHOS).

Our Angelic Soul does not care if it is wrong; it only wants to do what is right. As contrasted, our Primitive Soul needs to be right all the time, regardless of the truth, facts, or the circumstances. Our Primitive Soul will continue to justify and support our wrong position just so it can be right (this is most annoying). The difficulty is knowing when we are wrong, because our Primitive Soul motivations will want to protect us, so we can be right. We need to decide whether we are more willing to have the right answer, more than just believing we are right.
