Start With Simple

Jan 31, 2019

To effect a positive change in your life – start off simple. Start by taking an honest look at your life for all the excesses that exist in it – too much food, weight, jewelry, purses, tools, clothes, shoes, cars, toys, TV time, etc. You need to make room and take the time—quality time—for the essential things in your life – health, relationships, and happiness—all in balance.

“To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter… to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life.” John Burroughs

From Only Human, give Action Step 5 a go, I will… Simplify My Life:

It is time to give up our obsessions and compulsions; our need to acquire stuff. This is our human nature in control of our life. Look at the different areas of your life, those places where you have too much (quantity and value). Greed is a manifestation of an unchecked human nature drive to accumulate stuff in pursuit of abundance and prosperity.

We all have mental and physical baggage, stuff we have been carrying around for some time. But now is the time to start unloading it. Excessive mental baggage could be our opinions, ideas, prejudices, beliefs, and our memories of bad, sad, and upsetting experiences.

Physical baggage is all the stuff we have accumulated. Our disproportionate need for physical beauty—with ourselves, our spouse, our children, our home, our car. Look around your living and work spaces and be honest with yourself — do you have too much? Now is the time to take control and start shedding the unnecessary mental and physical excesses.
