Be the Change in Your Life
Like businesses, we humans also need to constantly change and grow – not only technologically but, intellectually and emotionally. The circumstances of our life and the world around us are changing – relationships, family, and career – so we need to change in order to keep up. We cannot remain the same person; we need to grow. We need to be better today than we were yesterday.
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi
I learned how to not take myself too seriously. I now understand how to own up to and take responsibility for my actions and my words. I can now laugh at and grow from my mistakes, not make excuses for them or try to justify them.
But, if change was easy, we would be doing it all the time – like flipping a light switch on when it is dark. Think about your car. You are driving along and the Engine Oil light comes on. You have just been made aware you need to “change” your oil. But how do you “change” the oil in your car? You are now aware you need to change, but how? You read the owner’s manual and learn how. But just knowing how to change is not enough – you need to have a very good reason to change – a motivation. In the car example, because the car will eventually stop running.
As I point out in Only Human: Guide to our internal Human Operating System and Achieving a Better Life, you need to find the important “why” – motivation in your life. One that will drive you when the going gets tough. Though it is not easy, change and grow we must do – for ourselves, the people around us, and for the health of the entire planet. See you on the other side.
